Sharad Purnima
Ashwin Shukla Purnima
The harvest full moon, kept as Kojagiri in Maharashtra and Bengal — rice pudding is left out overnight under the moon and eaten at midnight.
Why this date
Ashwin Shukla Purnima, the full moon of Ashwin — but settled in the evening rather than at sunrise, because the observance is a night one: the rice pudding is left under the moon and eaten at midnight. In 2024 that distinction moved it a whole day, to 16 October, while the tithi at the following sunrise still read as the full moon.
