The panchang value running at sunrise names the whole day — and sunrise takes about two hours to sweep India, from Arunachal to Kutch. On most days every limb changes outside that window and the whole country shares one panchang. But when a tithi, nakshatra, yoga or karana ends while the sun is rising across India, the country splits in two along the sunrise line: east of it the sun was already up, so the old value holds for the day; west of it the day begins under the new one.
