Ghatasthapana
Ashwin Shukla Pratipada
The pot installation that opens Sharad Navratri, and with it the nine nights of the Goddess.
Why this date
Ashwin Shukla Pratipada, the first tithi of the bright fortnight of Ashwin. The nine nights run from here to Mahanavami — and because a tithi can be skipped or repeated, the nine nights occasionally span eight or ten civil days.
