Chaturmas is the four-month stretch from Devshayani Ekadashi (Ashadha Shukla 11) to Prabodhini Ekadashi (Kartik Shukla 11) — the months Vishnu is said to sleep. Marriages and other new undertakings are traditionally deferred through it, which is why the Vivaah list is empty across these dates. When an adhik maas falls inside it, Chaturmas absorbs the extra month and runs five by the calendar rather than four.
